Traffic Marshals remain in place to control entry and exit traffic to Porters Lane, Plumford Road and Old Badgins Road. Passes have been issued to residents of those roads to allow access into their properties. These passes can now also be used to exit the A251 in one direction only towards Faversham, as there is currently enough road space to pass safely. The area of closure has had to be extended and from 7am this morning (4 September) there will be an additional full closure set up at the junction of Dayton Road. Passes will need to be shown at this point. To protect the safety of everyone within the work area, please remember that it is essential to drive through the work area slowly with hazard lights on. Swale Borough Council wants local people to share their views about the rollout of the new waste and street cleansing contract. The council is carrying out a review into the contract with Suez, which began in March, and is looking at a range of issues related to the start of the new contract, including resources, staffing, data, rounds, contract management, and communications. To make sure people can give their experiences of the move to a new contract, a survey has been launched https://swale.gov.uk/waste-contract-survey to get insights into the preparations for the change and experiences following the rollout. As well as the survey, the council is carrying out workshops with council officers and Suez representatives, consulting with area committees and parish councils. The public survey will close at 11:59pm on Wednesday 2 October. The review is expected to complete its report in November, with a report presented to the Environment and Climate Change Committee. 190m of pipe was installed last week and 13 services were renewed or upgraded along the A251 near its junction with Lees Court Road. The work and reinstatement is expected to move south of this junction towards the end of the week. This will enable Sheldwich and North Street residents' to get to and from Faversham along the A251. The works are on schedule and the pipes in Lees Court Road can be upgraded without requiring a road closure, and will be using a 'give and take' instead. Ahead of the new school term starting, traffic will be monitored and further controls introduced if necessary. The school bus service will have permission to travel along the A251 while the upgrades continue, subject to no unexpected engineering issues being encountered. Stagecoach have confirmed that there will be two buses in the morning and one in the afternoon. Please check the Stagecoach website for timings of these services. Read More...

Additional signage has been requested to be placed on the A2 either side of Selling Road to ensure visibility of message that it is not a suitable diversion route. The black on yellow sign on Challock roundabout stating A251 open as far as Dayton Road to be removed/reworded to discourage through traffic from using that instead of the signed diversion route. Residents within the closure points along the A251 can now go one-way towards Faversham. Residents passes are being shown, and drivers are requested to progress through the works area slowly and with hazard lights on. The aim is to remove as much local traffic as possible off the lanes. 700m of new pipe was installed on Thursday 8 August and another 500m on Sunday 11 August – reinstatement of excavations along this section will be completed Tuesday 13 August. Closure points will remain at same location for now. Week beginning 12 August – plan to carry out preparation work to complete the next section of approximately 400m – it is estimated this section has around 30 service connections to upgrade or renew, so progress will be a little slower than last week. Excavations required for the first section of new pipe have been completed and new pipe will be laid next Thursday. There is a high volume of vehicles using access passes along Plumford Road, Porters Lane and Old Badgins Road which is causing some problems. Residents with access passes will temporarily be able to use the A251 one way only towards Faversham. This should then reduce the volume of traffic using the smaller roads. Read More...

Southeastern customers are being asked to plan ahead and leave more time to complete their journeys, as buses will replace trains during the project. During this time Network Rail will be undertaking a £3 million project to stabilise cuttings and embankments at six sites along the line. This is part of the wider £1.25 billion South East Upgrade, which is improving the railway across East Sussex, Kent and South London. The work on this line will protect the railway from the risk of landslips, meaning better performance, more reliable journeys, and an improved customer experience for passengers. One of the biggest pieces of work will be the installation of a 30-metre reinforced concrete wall at the bottom of the railway cutting at Selling tunnel; this is one of the most at-risk sites for landslips, and so this reinforced wall will help to keep the railway safe. Local communities should prepare for potential disruption on the roads this weekend (8-10 April) as the Easter getaway gets underway. With P&O Ferries cancelling all services this weekend and potential for poor weather conditions, tourists and hauliers using cross-Channel services from Dover and Folkestone are being advised to allow extra time for their journey and to be prepared for long delays. Traffic management is in place for cross-Channel freight traffic which must join the queue on the M20. HGV drivers are advised that enforcement is in place across the Kent network to deal with queue jumping and you will be sent to the back of the queue. Inevitably, this is having a major impact on local traffic. Local diversions are in place, but please allow extra time for your journey.
